In February 1959, Jean Arp and Marguerite Hagenbach purchased a ca. 4,600-m2-large property in Locarno-Solduno. The property, which is named Ronco dei Fiori, consisted of an old Ticino residential house, an extensive garden as well as a vineyard. After various renovations, the couple moved into the house in May 1960.

Arp set up a studio on the first floor and found another workshop for his sculptural works in Locarno, on the studio grounds of Remo Rossi, where a large number of his late works were created. For Arp, who had already frequently spent time in Ascona since his Dada years in Zurich, the move into the new residence fulfilled a long-cherished dream and the park-like garden gradually filled with sculptures he made in Ticino.
